There are so many fun things to do at home. Sometimes it’s the simplest things that bring the most enjoyment. My daughter Izzy kept asking about getting one of those little kiddie pools. You know, the plastic ones that are about 50 inches in diameter and about 8 inches high. Whenever she would ask for one I would think too myself, who wants to swim in a pool that small if she wants to get in the pool we’ll just take her to the pool and get in the “real deal”. But one day we’re walking through Aldi (our “go to” home shopping destination) and we come across this slip and slide, my wife grabs it and at the moment she got the ball rolling on the type of fun that makes memories that will never be forgotten.
The slip & slide was what got it started but we didn’t stop there. Dejia grabbed some of those new school water balloons that makes it possible to fill about 20 in about 1.5 minutes and I decided to grab one of those little kiddie pools that Izzy kept asking me about and we decided we were going to have a little water day in the backyard. That was a kind of fun I hadn’t had in a very long time. I mean it was a pure blast, we laughed and played ran and slid like we were in our very own water pack. When our Xbox loving teen emerged from his dungeon to join and took the time to mention how much he enjoyed it I couldn’t help but think about how selfish it was of me to put something like this off for so long because I let vain thinking get in the way.
Sometimes as adults and as parents it’s good to just get back to the basics. Sometimes we make things much more harder and expensive than the have to be. Like when we put a ton of thought and stress into thinking about the Christmas presents we want to get out toddler and they end up having the most fun with the boxes and the wrapping paper. If you haven’t already give this kind of weekend fun a try and be sure to let me know what you think.
